Digital Transformation Success in the Motorsport Industry

This case underscores the power of collaboration and strategic planning in the ever-evolving digital landscape, demonstrating how various parties can work together from their strengths to achieve exceptional results.
6 November 2023

In early 2022, a well known and respected company in the motorsport industry embarked on a journey to revamp its digital presence. The catalyst for this transformation was the obsolescence of their existing platform. This marked the beginning of a shift toward embracing AEM Cloud. The company in question saw this not only as a technology upgrade but as an opportunity to offer a more personalized and engaging customer experience with a clear goal: to boost e-commerce leads and increase sales.

To bring this vision to life, the company turned to Digitalum’s team of e-commerce and digital solution experts, known for their prowess in this field. Working closely with the client and their existing partners, Digitalum helped align the multi-year program with long-term objectives, identifying crucial processes and ensuring everything stayed on the right track.

The result? A successful launch within predefined timelines, even in the face of unexpected changes, such as a last-minute adjustment in the analytics source. This case underscores the power of collaboration and strategic planning in the ever-evolving digital landscape, demonstrating how various parties, some of them even direct competitors, can work together from their strengths to achieve exceptional results. Let’s delve deeper into this success story!

“Seeing this impressive project go live is exciting, especially because it was marked by an exceptional cooperation with all of the client’s implementation partners and business stakeholders. By collaboratively striving for the best results, each contributing their expertise, we’ve achieved something truly remarkable.”

What Was Achieved?

The client team saw an opportunity to turn a necessity into an advantage. Transitioning from an outdated AEM version to AEM Cloud, they embraced the existing requirements and aimed to enhance them further. The program had clear objectives:

  1. Seamless Upgrade: Transition from the unsupported AEM version to AEM Cloud while preserving existing integrations.
  2. Platform Revamp: Full redesign of the entire platform to surpass customer expectations by offering a seamless user experience.
  3. Innovative 3D Configurator: Introduce a cutting-edge real-time 3D configurator for desktop and mobile.
  4. Personalized Customer Experience: Lay the foundation for delivering highly personalized customer experiences.
  5. Efficient Content Management: Create a platform that facilitates swift and efficient content updates across European countries.

As the program progressed, a sixth objective emerged. When an audit recommended changing the analytics tool, a swift adjustment was necessary, just months before the planned launch. Bart Caerlens, senior digital consultant at Digitalum, emphasized, “Embracing best practices from the start and considering long-term goals in advance allowed us to make this change quickly and efficiently.”

How Did They Do It?

Collaborating with EPAM, one of the client’s preferred implementation partners, along with INDG and closely involving all business stakeholders, Digitalum embarked on the journey to implement the core capabilities of the new platform. This involved not only creating new page templates and reusable components but also managing the entire program since April 2022.

For over 1.5 years, Bart Caerlens, an e-commerce and CX expert, reinforced the client team as a Program Manager. His role was to streamline communications and oversee the processes to align business and information systems.

“Embracing best practices from the start and considering long-term goals in advance allowed us to make this change quickly and efficiently.”

The Impressive Result

On September 27 2023, the revamped European website was launched in nearly 40 countries, compliant with various legislations and available in over 20 languages. It featured the innovative real-time 3D configurator and incorporated a new analytics tool.

While the initial version (MVP) is now live, the journey continues. Bart Caerlens notes, “There is still work on the shelf that we are now helping to roll out, step by step. Think of the migration of other websites, implementing further personalization, and fine-tuning using the right tools.”

In conclusion, Bart Caerlens emphasizes, “Seeing this impressive project go live is exciting, especially because it was marked by an exceptional cooperation with all of the client’s implementation partners and business stakeholders. By collaboratively striving for the best results, each contributing their expertise, we’ve achieved something truly remarkable.”
