Project context

Hospital Logistics provides healthcare institutions with supplies and takes care of the logistics so they can focus on their primary tasks: caring for patients. With the introduction of a new set of ordering tools, the ease of use on the B2B webshop was very important to them. Working together with Continuum and Sirus for the technical implementation, Digitalum was contacted to take a look at the User Experience.

The Zalando of healthcare

The first step was to understand the business and user goals. In any project, understanding the context is a key to success. For this, we met with Thomas, the IT Manager. He showed us the ropes and gave us a taste of what it’s like ordering supplies. His vision was to make ordering supplies from Hospital Logistics, just as easy as ordering shoes from Zalando.

User testing

After exploring some user interface options, we made a couple mockups to use in our user interviews. Once we were talking to Hospital Logistics’ clients it became apparent, they relied on pictures to make sure they were ordering the right item. This is quite different to other B2B solutions where they know the exact part number.

With our new insights we mapped out a prototype on some high-fidelity mockups to see if we had covered all user flows. During the user tests we also did some A/B testing to see which flow and interface was easier to use.

With the user tests completed and the user interface accepted as valid, we worked together with Continuum’s developers to turn the mockups into reality.

“With the new interface and ease of use it’s much easier to convince new prospects. The numbers don’t lie; this project is a success!”

Thomas Havermans – IT Manager at Hospital Logistics

Boosted sales

Upon completion, the web shop was an immediate success. According to Thomas Havermans (IT Manager at Hospital Logistics) they have on-boarded three new clients in just as many months. “With the new interface and ease of use it’s much easier to convince new prospects. The numbers don’t lie; this project is a success!”
